Sliding bypass doors maybe a term unfamiliar to many people. Perhaps the less usage of this term makes it lurk into the shadows of the limelight. Actually, many of you may have already seen these doors. I bet almost all of you have seen them but you may have just termed them as plain sliding doors. Actually, they are really just sliding doors. They are installed in such a way that each sliding door panel passes in front or behind the other panel during opening and closing. This mechanism led to the term sliding bypass doors. As many of you may have noticed, most hotels use these in their room closets or wardrobes.

Bypass-type sliding wardrobe doors are usually installed in dual panels. That is, the entire door assembly is made up of two evenly sized door panels that slides in front or at the back with respect to each other. Each panel has its own guide rails at the top and at the bottom. In most door rail systems, ball bearings or rollers are utilized in order to achieve a smooth sliding action that produces little and non-annoying sliding sound. This also achieves convenient and easy opening and closing of the doors. Furthermore, there are some designs that utilize more than two panels though. But those are left up to the preference of the interior designer or the room owner.

Just like with other sliding closet doors, bypass doors are available in various types in terms of material composition. They are available in wood, glass and polyvinyl chloride ( PVC ). When it comes to wood bypass doors, louvered panels are the most common designs, perhaps, due to their elegant nature that fits most closet designs and room themes. Glass bypass doors are widely available in clear panels, frosted panels and milky panels. Although glass panels are quite heavier than the other types, they are symbols of an exotic ambiance that revolves around the room. In any case, many individuals have been greatly satisfied in using a glass bypass door. Lastly, sliding doors for the wardrobe that are made of PVC are, as many would manifest, the most durable. As some of us may know, PVC is a great innovation by humankind. Because of its inert nature, it has the ability to withstand and be resilient against the elements that causes corrosion and material deterioration. Not only that, PVC is a lightweight yet sturdy material that has found its way in many things invented by man. When it comes to sliding bypass doors, they have made their presence widely felt. Although they may cost more than the other types, they certainly can be a nice option too.

Have you heard of the word Plexiglas or its spelling variant (or misspelling) Plexiglass? I bet some of you do. But for other who may be familiar with it but do not know exactly what it is, this article might be a bit of help. Sliding wardrobe doors made out of Plexiglas have found their way in some homes and some other closets around the world. Not only that, they can also be found being used in some home windows and building windows. They may really look like the ordinary glass you can see in most windows and other glass type doors. Furthermore, due to their similarity in appearance with glass, one cannot distinguish, in many instances, one over the other from a visual standpoint. In a lot of ways, Plexiglas material has been dubbed as a durable and lightweight item. It has found its uses in similar ways with those of ordinary glasses although they can cost more.

Plexiglas is actually a transparent thermoplastic type of material most commonly known as acrylic glass. It is a synthetic creation borne out of the creativeness of our intelligent inventors years back. How durable are they really? Some might ask. There may never be a right word that can be used to gauge its durability. However though, one thing that might help us gauge their durability is to cite their various applications these days. For one, they are used in humongous amusement aquariums found in theme parks. When was the last time you walked through a glass tunnel in a giant aquarium in a theme park? Yep. Those tunnels are made of acrylic glass. Have you ever wondered what those protective glass surrounding the hockey rinks are made of? You’re right. They are made of acrylic glass. Furthermore, those aircraft windows that you might have thought of as being made of ordinary glass are actually made of acrylic glass. Police riot shields and riot helmet visors are mostly made from acrylic glass. Citing these applications can already help us size it up when it comes to how durable Plexiglas really is.

Going back to sliding wardrobes, acrylic glass have been a nice alternative for ordinary glass closet doors. However though, because they may cost more, not many budget ranges can go for them. But for those whose budget may not be a big factor, you can try putting them into your shortlist of glass door alternatives. Acrylic glass is actually marketed under different brand names. Plexiglas is one of the brand names. Other brand names are Acrylex, Acrylite, Polycast and Vitrolex just to name a few. If you happen to explore the idea of installing a sliding closet door made out of such material, then looking for it may have become easier nowadays. Many vendors and merchants have already made their presence online together with their showcases of various styles and designs of sliding wardrobe doors.
